Located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and immediately adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, this highly innovative scheme responds to the challenges of PPS7 by creating a house which is in complete harmony with its landscape setting, allowing a stunning collection of farm buildings to dominate the skyline, while seamlessly integrating a highly modern and sustainable house within the farm steading. Before establishing his own practise, Alistair developed a strategy for the c.200-acre estate, enhancing habitats while introducing a layer of ecologically inspired environmental art to the rugged farmed landscape. Within the farmstead walls, a new private garden blends soft, ecologically inspired planting with clean crisp lines as a foil to the uncompromisingly modern grass-roofed new house. The Paise is the third successful PPS7 application the Alistair has led.
